DEVOTIONAL THOUGHTS
Towards the end of the book of Acts, Paul is passed from one trial and one judge to the next. In this section, Paul stands trial, or is examined by a set of three rulers: Felix, Festus, and Agrippa. Although this reading is only three chapters, it covers over two years of time, during which Paul is in prison awaiting his transferal to Rome where he has been told by the Lord that he will preach the Gospel. This time in Paul’s life must have been one that required immense patience and trust in Jesus. We are reminded that the Lord is our deliverer and our sustainer during times of difficulty and uncertainty. How has our Lord sustained you during a season which required patience? Are you in the midst of such a season now? Paul’s example encourages us to wait upon the Lord in long seasons of difficulty and trust that He will sustain us and provide for us.
“Who told you that the night would never end in day? Who told you that the sea would ebb out till there should be nothing left but a vast track of mud and sand? Who told you that the winter would proceed from frost to frost, from snow, and ice, and hail, to deeper snow, and yet more heavy tempest? Who told you this, I say? Don’t you know that day follows night, that flood comes after ebb, that spring and summer succeed to winter? Hope then! Hope you ever! For God fails you not.”
